Colosseum Ticket Information
The Colosseum, Rome’s top attraction, is notorious for its long lines at the entrance. For this reason, it's always a good idea to book your Colosseum ticket online in advance. If you don’t, you should expect to spend 2-3 hours waiting in line – or even longer in high season!
Colosseum Ticket Options & Prices
There are numerous Colosseum tickets options available. Below we describe the most popular ones:
Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill Priority Entrance Ticket: this skip the line ticket gives you access to the first and second tier of the Colosseum. Like all Colosseum tickets it also gives you access to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill. Also included is a downloadable map of the Colosseum as well as a 15-minute multimedia video available in English, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, French, Japanese, Latin and Mandarin. This ticket cost 22.90 euro.
Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill Last Minute Ticket: this ticket is identical to the one describe above with the difference, as the name already suggests, that it has last minute availability. In addition, it includes a downloadable audio guide available in English, Italian, Spanish and French. This ticket costs 25.50 euro.
Tickets for Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill with Video Guide & Ancient Rome Video: this is one of the most popular ticket options. This Smartphone ticket gives you priority entry into the Colosseum (1st and 2nd tier) as well as into the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. It also includes a downloaded map of the Colosseum, a 15 minute 3D ancient Rome multimedia video in English and a video guide of the Colosseum available in English, Italian, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese and Russian. The ticket costs 28.90 euro.
Colosseum Ticket with Arena Floor Access: this ticket gives you access to the first and second tier of the Colosseum as well as to the Arena Floor, which is not accessible with the standard Colosseum ticket. This ticket also grants you entry to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill and costs 14.50 euro.
Ticket for the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill & Mamertine Prison: this Colosseum combo ticket gives you access to the Martine Prison (aka Tullianum), the basement of the church of San Pietro in Carcere, the Carcer Tullianum Museum, the Colosseum's 1st and 2nd tier, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Included in your Mamertine Prison ticket is a video guide which is available in English, Italian and Spanish. The ticket price is 28 euro.

A few more notes about the Colosseum online tickets
All Colosseim tickets bought online have the following in common:
- They are smartphone tickets, you don’t need to print your ticket to be allowed in.
- They give you skip the line entry into the Colosseum. Please note that the skip the line ticket allows you to skip the famously long lines at the ticket office but not at the security check, which all visitors have to go through before entering.
- They also give you access to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
Who can visit the Colosseum for free or with a discounted ticket?
Discounted tickets are available for students. While, children and people with a disability can visit the Colosseum for free.
EU citizens between the age of 18 and 25 get a 2 euro discount on the ticket price. To receive this discount a valid student ID must be provided.
Children younger than 18 years old can enter the Colosseum for free if accompanied by an adult with a ticket. They need to show a valid ID to the staff at the entrance and if they want to enjoy skip the line entry they will need to pay 2 euro as a booking fee.
People with a disability, together with a caregiver or companion, also are eligible for free access. To be allowed in for free they need to show a valid medical certification of disability.
Colosseum & Vatican Museums Combo Ticket
The Best of Rome Pass is a very popular combo ticket for visiting the Vatican and the Colosseum. With this pass you will enjoy skip the line entrance to the following attractions in Rome: Colosseum, Vatican Museums, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Also included are two audio guides - one for the St. Peter's Basilica and the other for the city of Rome. With the pass you also will get a 15 minute ancient Rome multimedia video. This pass is valid for 3 days and costs 80.10 euro.
Visiting the Colosseum with a Rome City Pass
There are a number of Rome city pass with which you can visit the Colosseum. The two most popular ones are the Roma Pass and the Omnia Card. Although both passes give you access to the Colosseum, a reservation for your Colosseum visit is required. Without this reservation you will not be allowed in. The reservation process for the Roma pass and the Omnia pass are the same.
There are three possible ways to reserve your visit:
- Online on the official website.
- Calling the call center at 0639967575.
- At the Roman Forum & Palatine ticket offices. This can be done only on the day of the visit.
Opening Hours of the Colosseum
The Colosseum, except for the 1st of January and 25th of December, is open every day.
Opening hours vary depending on sunset. The Colosseum opens every morning at 8:30am and closes every night one hour before sunset.
- Last Sunday in October – 15/02: 08:30am - 4:30pm
- 16/02 - 15/03: 08:30am- 5:00pm
- 16/03 - Saturday in March: 08:30 am - 5:30pm
- Last Sunday in March - 31/08: 08:30am - 7:15pm
- 1/09 – 30/09: 08:30am - 7:00pm
- 1/10 - last Saturday in October: 08:30 am - 6:30pm
The last entry is one hour before closure and also the ticket office closes one hour before closure.
